Birdshot Uveitis Society of North America (BUSNA) approached me in 2023 regarding a complete redesign of their site.

Birdshot Uveitis is a condition that impacts individuals eyesight, yet their website was completely inaccessible. They did not have alt text, correct formatting, or even appropriate color contrast. They were using images to communicate text often and overall struggled with accessibility.

I did an accessibility and usability audit using WCAG guidelines as well as the Nielsen Norman usability heuristics and notated all the areas that were struggling accessibility-wise, and also made recommendations to improve the site.

I got a website set up on squarespace for them so they could edit it themselves over time, and did an accessibility test with a user who used a screen-reader. She was able to successfully navigate the site, which was the biggest win of all for me.

The site has grown and changed since launch, and I support the team at BUSNA who handles the website for any more advanced needs, but you can check it out at busna.org.
